Thursday, May 27, June 24, July 22, and August 19 – 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. William Paca Garden, 186 Prince George Street Welcome back for the third season of outdoor concerts in “The Coolest Backyard in Town.” Plan to enjoy a diverse summer of music, ranging from smooth jazz to blues to pop/rock, all in the beautiful William Paca Garden. You are invited to spread a blanket on the lawn or sit in chairs on the breezy terrace. Bring your own picnic. No spirits please - we’ll have great wine and cold beer waiting for you at the cash bar. We’ve even got a tent to cover you if it rains! Thursday, August 19 The last concert in “The Coolest Backyard in Town” features The Barnes-Queene Ensemble playing "traditional jazz plus." Saturday, Aug. 7 and Oct. 16 – 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. William Paca Garden, 186 Prince George Street This is a unique opportunity to paint the four seasons in the Paca Garden, a secluded reconstructed 18th-century garden. Jean Brinton Jaecks, landscape and garden watercolorist, conducts this landscape painting workshop, meeting once in each season of the year. Her focus will be the study of light in a garden setting. Artists may work in any medium and all levels of students are welcome. Small class size allows plenty of access to the instructor and a detailed critique at the end. Classes meet rain or shine. Wednesday, Sept.22 – 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. William Paca House, 186 Prince George Street This fabulous all-day sojourn will explore the changes in American decorative arts in Maryland between 1760 - 1820. This unique opportunity includes a 'behind-the-ropes' Curator’s tour of both the William Paca House in Annapolis and the Homewood House Museum in Baltimore, a visit to the Baltimore Museum of Art, lunch at Gertrude's and luxury transportation to and from Baltimore. Reservations are required and must be made by Sept. 7. Price increases to $125 on Aug. 22. Tickets are nonrefundable. Price: $100.00

Sundays, Sept. 19 – Oct. 10, 2010 – 1:00 – 2:30 p.m. William Paca Garden, 1 Martin Street Come join us in the Garden and discover the hidden artist within you. Create your own original art by imitating the light-filled impressionism of Monet, the eye-catching abstracts of O’Keefe, and the colorful expressionism of Van Gogh. The program is designed for children from kindergarten through third grade. All materials are provided and classes are held rain or shine. Child must be accompanied by an adult. Space is limited and registration is required. Enroll for all four classes, or come for just one! Sunday, Sept. 19 - Impressionistic Painting Create an impressionistic painting in the spirit of Claude Monet. First we will read aloud Linnea in Monet’s Garden. Then using sponges, construction paper, and stencils, children will make a painting of themselves standing on the bridge over the pond in the Paca garden. Sunday, Sept. 26 - Collage Children will create a collage. They first will listen to Eric Carle’s children’s book, The Very Hungry Caterpillar. Using Carle’s technique, they will make a colorful tissue paper collage and an egg carton caterpillar. Sunday, Oct. 3 - Abstract Flowers Children will study the difference between realistic and abstract art by looking at some of Georgia O’Keefe’s wonderful, large flowers. First they will read Through Georgia’s Eyes. Then, using markers, the children will create their own abstract painting using the flowers in the Paca garden as models. Sunday, Oct. 10 - Van Gogh’s Flowers Children will use washable poster paints to create an expressionistic picture in the spirit of Van Gogh’s Sunflowers. First, they will hear Camille and the Sunflowers. They then will paint flowers from the Paca Garden, emphasizing the bold colors and dramatic style of Van Gogh.Prices range from $10.00 to $12.00
Sunday, Oct. 24 – Adult Workshop from noon – 2:00 p.m., Children’s Workshop from 3:00 – 4:30 p.m.William Paca House Conference Room, 186 Prince George Street Have you dreamed of making gingerbread house for Christmas? If so, start practicing by making a gingerbread house for Halloween. Learn the tricks of house construction and how to use treats to make the perfect haunted house. Adult Workshop (16 years and older): Noon – 2:00 p.m. – A professional baker from Miss Nancy’s Fancy Bakery will be on hand to demonstrate the techniques for making the perfect gingerbread house. Comprehensive instructions and recipes will be provided. Children’s Workshop (ages 6-15): 3:00 – 4:30 p.m. – Children will have the opportunity to express their creativity by decorating their own individual size gingerbread house. Prices range from $20.00 to $25.00
